New Digiview Dollar Cartoon Craze discs at Wal-Mart

About Nothing over 6 bucks each!

Previous Entry New Digiview Dollar Cartoon Craze discs at Wal-Mart Feb. 18th, 2005 @ 08:06 pm Next Entry
My Local Walmart filled up their dollar DVD bin again. It's pretty much all the same stuff again(movies, TV, cartoons), except for 12 new Cartoon Craze titles. These are not number like the others. They also have different covers. The previews on the disc list 25 titles, 13 which have been previously released. Not sure if they are not making the other 12 old titles anymore.

Old titles. Same covers, same everything
Animal Farm
Bugs Bunny - Falling Hare
Daffy Duck And The Dinosaur
Donald Duck/Woody Woodpecker - Pantry Picnic
Little Lulu/Little Audrey - The Lost Dream
Mighty Mouse/Heckle and Jeckle - Wolf Wolf
Porky Pig - Porky's Cafe
Gumby - Gumbasia
Tweety/Elmer Fudd - A Corny Concerto
Mutt and Jeff - Slick Sleuths
Sing A-Longs
Betty Boop and Grampy

New Titles
Panda and the Magic Serpent
The Three Stooges and Friends - Goofy Gondoliers
Felix The Cat - Woos Whoopee
Raggedy Ann and Friends - Suddenly It's Spring
Popeye and Friends - Let's Sing with Popeye
Molly Moo-Cow and Friends
Hunky and Spunky and Friends - You Can't Shoe a Shoefly
The Wizard Of Oz and Friends
Aesop's Fables
Bosko and Friends - Bosko Shipwrecked
The Curious Adventures Of Mr. Wonderbird
The World of Hans Christian Andersen

Some really wacky stuff. Unlike previous Digiview cartoon comps, these seems to have the dreaded "And Friends" feel. For example, the Wizard Of Oz is a short cartoon anime version then filled out with 7 Fleischer cartoons and "Marcello, I'm Bored" (1966) directed by John Milius(director of Conan The Barbarian and Big Wednesday)with sound editing by George Lucas! EDIT: Even though it's listed and there's screen captures on the back cover, it's not on the disc. Except for the wizard of oz cartoon, the title listing on the back is completely wrong. D'oh.

Panda and The Magic Serpent is from a pretty bad print, but it is the first feature length color anime film ever made. It also apparently inspired Hayao Miyazaki to get into animation.

I was able to get 7 of the new discs, I'll report more titles when i can.

Cartoon Craze

I picked up volume 22 tonight, and I am kinda thrilled - it is loaded with really obscure stuff - Mutt and Jeff, some odd Ub Iwerks stuff. As I've looked up the various company names and producers, I've gotten a real history lesson - I thought I knew early animation history pretty well, but this is like a treasure trove of rarities.

All for a buck. Amazing!
